World Health Organisation

Many of the individual ingredients found in fragrance have been tested by a group of independent scientists, working under the umbrella of the World Health Organisation in conjunction with the International Labour Association. Their findings have passed the “peer review” process, which would discover any inaccuracies or bias.

The information they’ve published about individual chemicals can be found on the International Chemical Safety Cards, accessible at inchem.org/pages/icsc.html.

These tests are not done primarily for the safety of consumers, but for those who work with the chemicals. Many ingredients of fragrance also have other industrial uses and workers need to know what kind of protection they need.
